2000 Fatboy Petcock Question
Hey guys. The petcock on my Fatboy is starting to leak. Mine has the vacuum assisted diaphragm on the backside of the shutoff valve. Looking on J&P cycles I came across a Pingel shutoff valve but they want $200 bucks for one. Does anyone know if the OEM one can be rebuilt or are they throw away items?
Thanks

the vacuum activated the fuel flow...there's a diaphragm that that the vac draws to allow fuel to flow an when you shut the motor off it closes an prevents fuel flow so the carb bowl doesn't overflow.
it's a fairly common item to fail...I just replaced the one on my 99 fatboy with a pingle..got it off Amazon for $72 an I had a $25 gift card....went to install it an noticed I needed an adapter nut to use it! that was another 20 bucks. Some guys swear by the Pingels an some guys say just go with the $30 drag specialties.

+1 for the Pingel. The vacuum shut of was added when HD had a heap of complaints about engine damage due to fuel flooding the carb and filling the cylinder when all the, shall we say, yuppy type new age Harley owners forgot to turn the fuel tap off after shutting the engine off. HD answer was to stupid proof it and avoid warranty claims.
After getting work done to my engine and carb it had a mild flat spot as the throttle was cracked open. After I changed to the Pingel this was gone as the Pingel flows better.
