Default New (to us) Heritage Softail Classic for the wife

Long story short, the wife had mentioned wanting to drive in stead of ride on occasion. So I began keeping an eye out for either a good used bike (road king, softail ect), and we had thought about a trike as well. Not really looking to finance something that she may not drive all the time or I may take on occasion to work, I got a call from a local independent dealer that he just came across a low mileage softail and it was super clean. So I went and looked at it, wife checked it out and thought it would be a good once in a while bike, she liked the way it sat, so it was a go, brought it home today.

It's a 2006 Heritage Softail Classic, fuel injected, 6000 miles, one owner, big sucker intake, rinehart slip-ons, and a good list of bolt on accessories.

first thing she is looking to change (aka have me put on) is a different exhaust, and some better grips. Looking at maybe the Vance & Hines Long shot, or Long shot HS.

What doesn't she like about the Rineharts?

For the grips, I really like Avon.

I run Avons on my ultra classic and she likes them as well. Probably will end up ordering these

The rineharts are to loud, and have more of a cackle instead of a rumble when you open it up a bit. I may mess with the baffles a bit, but she pointed out a set of longshots she liked the sound of before.

I also use Avon grips on one of my bikes. The ones you linked are slightly bigger in diameter than stock, if this is an issue their Contour grips are, or at least feel smaller in diameter than stock.

FWIW, my dad has Rineharts on his 2008 Road King and they sound very deep and are not raspy or harsh yet still are loud enough to sound good.

You probably just need different baffles.

When I went to the Fatcats, (just a couple months ago I guess) it was more for performance. But I gotta say I really love the way it looks and sounds as well. It is a very well built pipe for sure.

OP, see if your wife likes the looks and sound of the Fat Cat with the wrapped louvered baffle (quietest). It is a much better pipe than the Long Shots...
