Default Oil Change?

I have a 2006 Street Glide and a 2014 Road King CVO and a 2006 Deluxe. The 06 Street Glide states change the oil at 5,000 miles and the Deluxe States 2,500 miles?? Both are TC88's so I just rode to Sturgis a 3,500 mile round trip so I was thinking I have another 1,500 before I need to change the oil? So my question is can anyone clarify the 5,000 miles on the Glide and 2,500 on the deluxe? If I can go 5,000 miles in the HD synthetic oil I have I want to. Thanks in advance for any help.

Oil is cheap insurance. HD recently stretched the intervals to 5k, under ideal riding conditions. Per HD, "If you ride your motorcycle hard, under dusty conditions or in cold weather, the engine oil and filter should be changed more often." To me, that means don't wait until 5k. Seeing how you have 3 bikes, changing your oil at 2500 rather than 5000 may require one or two more oil changes a year on your softy? Like I said, oil is cheap insurance and the peace of mind knowing I am using fresh oil is well worth the extra $100 a year. On the flip-side, there are many people using the 5k interval and not having any issues, and that is their prerogative. I just know how much I have invested in my bikes and want to take the best care of them that I can...

I think it depends on what kind of oil such as dino or syn. You can go longer with syn. My wifeys toyota 4 runner recommends 10k per change with syn. I dont go that long, but thats the recommendation?

I'm in the "Change it More Frequently" camp. However, a road trip of that length....I'd start with a fresh oil change, among other things, and just ride it. Don't worry about changing again till you return. Big road miles don't affect oil nearly as much as frequent cold starts and short trips.

I'm in the opposite camp of most people. I consider spending $10-12 on an oil sample as cheap insurance rather than the extra time and money to change more often. Oils have come a long ways since the days of every 3k or 3 months mentality. On my bike I sample at 5k, and depending on the results either change or go another 1-2k. I usually change every spring regardless since moisture can build up in the crankcase after sitting for winter.
