Default Dunlop Tire Question for '05 Heritage

I need both tires. Liking Dunlop as they're USA.
Current tires say "MT90B16" (front) and "MU85B16" (rear).
JP has the MT90B16 American Elite that seems okay.
But when I choose the MU85B16 American Elite for the rear, JP's website says it will not fit my bike. The other American Elite tires have sizing like 130/90/16. I presume that's like auto tires of tread width/aspect ratio/rim diameter. I just don't know how to translate MU85B16 into that...

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

JP says it's an error on their website and that it will fit (chatted with somebody named Kyle). So, they're on order. Hope they fit and real smooth!

You will like the tires. The Dunlop AE are miles better than the D402's. The technology inside the AE is twenty years ahead of the D402. The bike will ride smoother, not follow grooves, and handle more progressively than it did with the old tires. Enjoy!

Ride safe!

Rear tire size on this bike should be a 150/80/16

Agreed. Have them on my '06. Much better than the 402's.

Fact!!!!! Dunlop has come a long way and after going full circle with most of the other brands, I will keep running the AE's until something better comes along that can beat their wear and handling.

The MU85 is a different profile, wider and lower with more tread depth. It will fit on a Softail, but the 3"wheel width will crown the tread and create center tread wear. It is not the factory size for the bike. I have learned with regard to tires, everything is a trade off. More tread life-harsher ride, better handling=less grip, cheaper price=less wear and so on. I have tried the multi tread tires on my Heritage, and gained about 1000 miles better wear on the rear, they rode rough and were slippery on wet roads. I went back to the stock size 402's and 401's and got my ride and my sticky back. The engineers sometimes know best.

MU85B16 is a 140/90/16 tire. MT90B16 is a 130/90/16 tire.

Zanthamos: I believe the MU85B16 is an equivalent of 140/85/16. Hence the "85" in MU85B16.

Years ago I first substituted the stock MT90B16 rear with a MU85B16 to get more width and greater tread depth without changing the rolling diameter of the wheel. I accomplished all three objectives with the MU85B16.

On a pre-2003 Softail, like mine, you need to pay close attention to the nuts/bolts inside the rear fender (to ensure your tire does not rub on them) and to the inside edge of the drive belt (to make sure the tire does not come into contact with the belt).

2003+ Softails had different fender nut-brackets that are lower profile then the nylock nuts/washers found on pre-2003 softail rear fenders. Make sure the bolts are not too long either. I ground down the excess bolt length, and used the stock nuts/washers. There is plenty of clearance now. There was no belt interference.

Ride Safe!
