Default Just purchased '03 FLSTCI

Brand new Harley owner - '03 Heritage Classic 100th Annv w/ 31xxx miles.

Never owned HD before so I have some questions:
What do I need to know/be aware of/look out for?
Where can I locate a manual?
What kind of gas mileage can I expect? I could go about 140-150 on my VTX then switch to reserve. Same size tank.
How much fuel/miles are left if the fuel light comes on?
Best way to store it for winter? (Illinois)

Inspect cam chain tensioners, which has been mentioned a thousand times here![unless you have paper work that they have already been done] You should expect about 40mpg.I start looking for gas at the 160 mile mark.
Check the date code on the tires!!! Check drive belt tension, change oils in engine, trans, and primary.Check primary chain tension. If you do your own labor, buy a Harley factory shop manual. No Clymers or crap like that!
Where to buy manual? Your Harley dealer,or online from dealers that offer a discount.

Tires have excellent tread, look almost new. Got full oil change and new battery with the bike. I have no documentation on its service history though. Thanks for the heads up!

Just because the tires look ok, check the date code.

Manual can be found on Ebay.

Nice Heritage, my first Harley was a 02 heritage and I never went by the fuel gauge always went with the mileage. Never any issues. Just ride the wheels off of it after you find out the date code on the tires. Have fun and enjoy.

Congrads on the best looking Harley made....the Heritage!
These Heritage gas tanks will hold over 1 gallon after they click off. Top off gets you 200+ miles from the 5 gal tank, if you don't top off be careful. I fill up at 180-190 and get 43 mpg X 5= 215 miles. Touring bikes have 6 gallon tanks and years ago I put a 6 tank on my new '89 Softail and really liked that.

At 31K, if you haven't replaced the cam chain tensioners, check them ASAP... they may last 50K or could disintegrate and take out your engine

Where can I locate a manual?

You can use a dealer, but I've had luck with used manuals on eBay. Maybe a little dirty w/a few fingerprints, or a couple creases... but affordable. You should get all three; service, electrical, and parts manuals... each worth it's weight in gold, as these bikes get older.

What kind of gas mileage can I expect? I could go about 140-150 on my VTX then switch to reserve. Same size tank.

I get 38-39 MPG with a 95 ci big bore kit & cams..

How much fuel/miles are left if the fuel light comes on?

Never got that low...

Sorry, in SoCal, can't help with that..
I have an '03 Heritage. I was going to sell it when I bought my '12 Limited....

Couldn't do it... the bike is just way too cool and I still enjoy riding it. I'll have it until I can't ride anymore...

Enjoy!!
