Default Need some help with my 2005 Softail Deluxe Dash

I have been following the dash swap from JeffriesHD1 (its called Heritage Dash on a Softail Deluxe) on swapping the ugly 70's AMF style dash to the Heritage CAT EYE dash. The Harness that goes to the new LED cluster has newer connecter types on it and so I have to splice it into my existing wires.

I found a great diagram drom Dakota Dash explaining the Harley Colors on the bike and what they do, BUT on the Instrument Console Harness (Part #72658-12) I cant find a matching color on the harness, other than red and black, or a description as to what they control.

Does anyone have experience installing this MOD and splicing in the instrument console harness into their bike wiring that could throw me a bone, kinda stuck...

Let us know (in detail if you can) how you proceeded. My wife rides a 2005 Deluxe and this is kind of a back burner project for it. It'll be nice to know exactly how to do it when the day arrives.

I am a new Harley owner and have the bug to make changes. As a new owner I highly recommend getting a Service Repair manual for your year bike and a wiring manual for your year bike, also if you are planning on using parts from future year bikes get a wiring manual for that year bike. You can most likely figure things out with the right tools. As per usual hind sight is always 20/20.

Anyway Ill post a PIC of the completed wiring when I get my ride back, in the mean time I did drill a hole in the dash. From the inside of the dash I used an ice pick and struck it with a hammer to mar the inside slightly, then used a hard tip very thin drill bit. The hammer mark gave me something to bite into with the drill bit. I went from the inside to the outside so that if the drill bit ran it would mar the interior and not be visible when the dash is mounted.

Then I increased the drill bit one size and drilled it again and again until It was slightly larger than the trip reset button. Looks clean and looks factory, but I wish I would have made the hole farther back from the speedo dial so I dont have to reach for it as far, but whatever, still functional and still looks good.

Default Problem solved

Had my dash spliced in by a pro. Was another $350 on top of the parts price but the end result was worth it. Original old dash
New dash w crossbones bib
Just clears handlebars

Just put a set of Deluxe bars and risers on the old ladys Heritage that I bought off Ebay. She hated the stock Heritage bars...made her arms sore pretty quick. But...youre right..its close to hititing the dash at full lock...just clears it.

That dash looks pretty good. Something to think about.

Added some red leather trim to tank bib to match the detailing.
