I have the HD oil level and temperature combination unit in black, and happy with it.

Those can get pretty expensive... I guess the reason I'm posting is because I bought this cheap one off of ebay and it's not very snug and the outside diameter doesn't really cover the spout. I'm not sure (haven't ridden since purchase) but it may even leak? LOL

I had a cheap one off eBay and didn't have any trouble with it, but eventually went with the H-D unit just because. I also have the analog oil pressure guage similar to the others already posted. Just mind your leg when at a stop, it gets hot.

Really? Why would it get any hotter than the stock one?

He was referring to the additional oil pressure gauge. It's mounted to the top of the rocker box and you might touch it with your thigh...

The oil temp gauge will just make you worry, they have been running fine without them.

I thought our current EFI operated bikes had EITMS (Engine Idle Temperature Management System) also known as "rear cylinder cut off"...

Anytime your bike is at operating temp and you sit at idle for 2 minutes or longer the EITMS should engage. On a windy day that may not be true because then the engine is getting some airflow even when sitting still, but under normal conditions the EITMS should engage. Additionally, if you're playing with the throttle, moving even slightly, do not have the clutch completely disengaged, or the idle rpm is above 1200 rpm, the EITMS will not engage.

Here are the parameters that activate the EITMS:
  • Engine temp is > 287 deg
  • Twist grip opening is at idle
  • Vehicle speed is < 1 mph
  • Engine speed is < 1200 rpm
And here are the parameters that deactivate the EITMS:
  • Engine temp falls below 275 deg
  • Twist grip opening is > idle
  • Vehicle speed exceeds 2 mph
  • Engine speed exceeds 1350 rpm
  • Clutch is released with vehicle in gear
Like I said in my previous post, there is only one cure... Otherwise, you can either manually disable the system, or live with it. Personally, anytime my engine is getting hot enough to engage the EITMS I want to do something to cool it down - that's where the fan comes in.

Wow. All these expensive , real nice gauges are beyond cool. On the red bike I've got a cheap analog oil pressure block mounted gauge that replaces the oil screen acorn cap. That motor is more Shovel than Evo anyway, but it works and is accurate enough for me. On my TC88 Heritage, my oil tank mounted analog temp gauge is all HD and seems to work just fine. Old school stuff.
