Default Can you swap a softail front tire for a road king rim and tire

I was looking at a Road King tire with the double brakes / rotors and thinking it would be cool to swap to a Road King tire / rim on my Softail Deluxe front. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this????

Your other leg is going to have to have a hanger for the brake caliper...

Hey Bassman... as Rquest said.. you will need a right lower leg with the bolt mount holes for the brake piston..

the important thing is..

a) You need to make sure you get a front wheel.. and not a rear one (I know it sounds silly but I have seen people selling wheels stated as front, but they actually were rear wheels) as you know, on the front wheels the bolt size for the brake disk is the same on both sides, rear wheel the Pulley side uses bigger bolts.. and of course, you won't be able to bolt the brake disk on the Pulley side (unless in a moment of sheer madness you decide to expand the bolt holes on the disk using a step drill bit... LOL ))

b) what is the axle diameter on your bike?.. 3/4 inch - 1 inch?? make sure you get a wheel that accepts the very same bearing size.. a wheel with 3/4 inch will accept 1 inch bearing swap... NOT the 25mm.. if your axle is either 3/4 or 1 inch (double row bearings)... don't buy a wheel that has 25mm (single row bearings) .. the 25mm bearings are slimmer than 3/4 - 1 inch bearings. making the conversion quite difficult if not impossible to achieve. Here is a link where I explain it in more detail:

Happy riding!

You will need to change the lower legs (both) to road king legs, then get a road king front wheel with rotors, the proper axle and wheel spacers to match the legs, a right side caliper, brake lines and an 11/16" master cylinder to make this work...

Road King wheel is wider as well. I added another disc to the front of my Fatboy. I was working a machinist and found it would be harder to use the RK wheel. He was able to machine the front wheel and make it work. I used the lower forks from a RH to mount the calipers. Since the fork lowers on the RK are shorter than the ones on a softail you will need new cowbells that are 2" longer. Drag Specialties makes them. Parts and labor cost about $2500. The bike does stop better, but it is not a simple bolt on.

I had the road king 9 spoke wagon wheel on my Blackline... I didn't have to machine it.. it was a direct bolt on for the front wheel... the rear wheel is another story.. :-)
