Frame saver kit ordered.
Any ideas on how this kit mounts? http://www.jpcycles.com/product/7300045
Can't find any info on how that dash bracket bolts up to the frame. Are there any intermediate brackets needed?

Pretty cool someone makes a frame saver kit. Is it primary for accident repair or adapting a generic frame to Harley tanks?

The dash plate bolts to the three holes with the arrows...with the long bolts and tube spacers circled...the front tank mount also goes on the front hole...with a tube spacer on top of it.
The dash kit has a bunch of shims...you mount one tank, and play with the shims till it is the correct height.

So I popped the kit open - it's pretty cool actually.
However, I noticed that it's flat while the spine of the bike has a curve to it. My assumption is that it's a matter of cutting the front section from the back section and mounting the two parts individually. Does that make sense?
I imagine that this would be the ideal method to make sure that the original angles are preserved. Thoughts?
**Obviously what's left of the existing mounts need to be ground down, I took the photo to illustrate the curve in the frame between the front and rear mounts.

Well, after a whole bunch of cutting, grinding, test fitting and more grinding, the tanks are on and straight.
The rear mounts needed a lot of work to line up - they were way too tall and had to be ground down to get the mounting tabs on the tank to sit nicely.
I'm waiting for the dash kit I ordered to come in - to make sure that everything all lines up properly. Once I have everything bolted up, I'll tear it all down and weld the mounts in place.

You will need small bracket just above front edge of front rocker box, also just behind the dash on frame tube should be threaded holes in frame for the rear (original tank) tank mounts.
If you would consider , I would be interested in your struts. I need both sides for a 1984.
Was this a Heritage of Standard. The lingo may not have been present for the bike styles until later years but I think you know what I'm talking about.
Plain FXST used the bobtail fender which just bolts to the solid struts. Heritage ,I believe done the same as they would be short on the front end .
Looks like you have your hands full. Again, I will be interested in your struts if you decide to go another direction.
Thanks
Richard
