Hard Bags On A Heritage
I just bought my first Harley. It's a '13 Heritage. I would like to put hard bags on it. My question is, do I need special hardware, and do I have to change the exhaust. It has the stock pipes on it right now. Thanks in advance. Also would like to see pics of softails with hard bags.

I did a lot of research on fairings prior to placing an order and went with Wide Open Customs out of Kansas. When it got here I took it to my painter and he was very impressed with the quality. Very minimal prep to get it painted. I've never removed it as I like the wind break plus it looks cool. I cannot remember what it costs exactly but it was under 800.00

SOB..I just read what I wrote this morning and your first post. It was too damn early in the morning and I thought you were asking about fairings. My bad.
To answer your question....the bags came off a 2010 Electra Glide. I paid 750.00 for them on Craigslist. I bought new lids because I wanted speakers in them, 6x9 kickers. I used Cycle Vision mounting hardware for 300.00.
I think with your stock pipes there should be no problem getting it all installed.

No problem. Glad to help.
I noticed in your post you have the stock pipes. If your happy with the sound, cool.
If not consider Rush slip on mufflers. I put those on the day I bought the bike. Cannot remember what baffle but I think it was the loudest they offer.
When I put on the Performance Machine air cleaner and Vance & Hines fuel pack I removed the cheese grater baffles. Those things were easily 10 pounds each and 12 inches long. The exhaust note is absolulety incredible. I've had many people comment how nice the bike sounds. It's loud but not obnoxious at all.

I went to install the hard bags, I even went so far as to buy the parts. When I got the bag adapters (had to order the bags from a road king), the instructions said; requires a turn signal kit to relocate them, the pipes need to be 1" below the axle. I could have stressed the stock pipes and pulled them down, and move the turn signals but when I looked closer on the bag lid it was going to rub on the seat. To many mods for something that wasn't going to work that great.
To many modifications for me (cost. I could only afford bags, or dyno and exhaust but not both) So I took all the parts back and got a exhaust system and dyno tune.
