Raked Trees on Softail to fix trail?

RE: Raked Trees on Softail to fix trail?
Please use a calculator on that. (online calculators everywhere.)
I wouldn't be afraid of anything from just under 4 all the way to 6 degrees myself, but it's my hind end at risk.
I still believe that the touring bikes and the Heritage Springer ship with over 6 degrees.

RE: Raked Trees on Softail to fix trail?
I had to buy new shocks and lower the rear end approx 3/4 of an inch when I had my 16" front wheel put on. I don't know how it was all figured out, since I didn't do the work myself. Good luck and post some pixs when you get it done.

Forgive me guys for bumping some old threads but i wanted to subscribe and bring these chosen few back to life to help me with my NT build. (i know no bump needed to subscribe BUT damn after reading and bookmarking for 2 months i gotta give these few threads a bump.
for the fxstb OR dyna front ends of softails...whats the solution to add a little more "chopper" to the bike? i am debating on messing with this or not.
NT specifically....with a 32* frame and 2* tress stock.

Softail FXST Rake/Tree Job
I'm researching a similar project, stretching my FXST a bit. I look like an ape on a grape right now at 6' 4", but I also wanna retain the ride quality as I ride pretty hard. I'm using the RB Racing calculator and here's what I come up with....
Stock:
Angle:34*
Trail: 4.44" (It's advertised at 5" but the calc says 4.44")
Wheel Base: 66.5"
Neck Height:38.61"
With 3* neck cups, 4* rake, and +4" on the tubes:
Angle: 41.58*
Trail: 4.4"
Wheel Base:69.09"
Neck Height: 38.86"
Everything is almost identical except for the wheel base of course. Based on these numbers can I assume a similar ride since its not a drastic change and the similar trail/Neck height values?
If anyone has done something similar I would really appreciate some input before I pull the trigger. I'm out in Afghan. trying to put everything together online before I come home.

I'm no mechanic, and I'll start this by saying that messing with front end geometry can be dangerous if not done correctly. That said, I've done a lot of reading on the subject, and have basically found that the only relevant measurement, in terms of safety and handling, is the trail. As long as the trail stays within specs, you will most likely have decent handling. Here's a bit of reading, some good info click here.

Weird
JReichart, thanks for the info.
Weird part is, inputting the same data into that calculator as the other RB Racing calc. I get totally diff values. I get 3.66 for a trail with the 35* frame (32* plus the 3* neck cups) 4* rake trees, and 4" OS tubes while on the first calc I got 4.4.......any ideas?
