Default Shifter Problem

I have a new problem with my shifter. I shift into 2nd or 3rd and my shifter goes all the way up. I am unable to shift to 4h and 5th intill I gently press down on the shifter and it lock back into place then I am able to shift normal. I just started having this problem. I have about 7,ooo miles on my bike. I own a 2006 Fatboy EFI. Please if anybody has some good advice let know how to fix this problem. It is annoying when I have a car behind me and I can't shift and I rev my rpms.

The seperate tranny big twins (EVO's)had a adjustment (bolt/ lock nut)to correct this. I would think the later models have it also.

I had this problem last year. The bushing that the shift lever pivots inside got all crudded up and was preventing the lever from returning to it's zero point. The fix is to remove the shift lever, and ream out and lube the bushing. It hasn't happened since this was done on my bike.

Cheers!

Hi,
I had this problem only last weekend whilst using my bike, after almost 3000 miles.
The local dealer repaired it under the warranty, saying that it was one of the bushes in the forward control mech that needed machining(filing)
It seems fine now - its funny how it took all those miles to materialise though.

I had the same problem. Another solution would be an aftermarket shift linkage with the ball joints. Not a cost effective solution, but it looks good and is functional. The only reason I mention it is because I think the stock ones look hideous.

LOL! Well, it ranks up there with the stock license plate frame.
