Default ticking fatboy

Any one know why the 07 96 inch engines make so much noise? Will using a heavy weight oil help quiet the value noise? Mine sounds like my mother's 50 year old sewing machine.

i havent done this yet but guys say that synthetic oils (amsoil, mobil 1 v-twin, redline for ex.)in all 3 holes helps with noise, heat and easiness in shifting. might wanna consider switching. i know i am on my next oil change. newb here too and found this out here. if iam wrong with the info im sure someone will correct me.

05 Fatboy also sounds "different". After doing some research, I found out that it is common. Before I installed the Rush mufflers, it was even worse. I had a VROD and it was buttery smooth. When I got the Fatboy, it sounded like the engine was broken with a winding sound.

I was told that it was the balancers. My buddy's Road King (rubber mounted engine) does not have that noise.

My advice, get louder pipes. I guess its part of owning a Harley.

Ride hard and ride safe!

Aren't you glad you paid $20K for an old, raw, unrefined product. Mine is noisy too, I am running Amsoil in all three holes. It's just a Harley I guess.

I guess its how you look at it. I like the gut feelings of riding a machine. Maybe thats why old musclecars are now fetching 6 digit prices at auction or why a ferrari doesn't need a radio.....ps. I didn't pay anywhere near 20 grand but thats beside the point.

Mine is too quiet. Didn't dound like a proper HD until I changed the exhaust system. Try to get a ride on one of the quackysaki 750 police bikes and you will never think of your bike as noisy again.

What is with these 05 motors anyway?

I was doing some "adjusting" to the baffle on my 2&1 pro-pipe & added a double thickness of new baffle material. Ran the bike today on a 200 mile trip and it drove me nuts. I never knew that motor made all them whirling, clacking, clicking frickin noises. And to top it off another rider said "damm that's a quiet harley." Back home I didn't even wait for it to cool down & I had to wear welding gloves to pull the baffle and junk that fiberglass wrapping crap material. Don't hear nothin but Harley again. What you don't hear you don't have to worry about!!! Ride on.
