fatboy history

RE: fatboy history
I remember running into a guy riding the 90 "Gray Ghost" and hearing that origin of the name. Seems totally believable to me. Especailly after looking up some pics of the bombs thats were dropped...grey withyellow bands. and given how badly the motor co. was doing against import bikes at the time. Sort of metaphoric for introducing a model that would shift power in motorcycle industry. Certainly wouldn't expect a spokesperson to confirm...but between the name, color, and badging whats not to believe. IMOP anyway.

In my opinion, that Snopes story really sucks. It looks as though it was written by some politically correct pansie. I'd like to know how they went about 'verifying' it.

Personally, I don't give ash!t one way or the other but I've read interviews with Willie G where he denied it.

RE: fatboy history
It was absolutely a stab into the heart of the jap bike market. Oh course Willie G can't say he named it after "the bomb"
It did drop a bomb on honda, suzuki etc.
The Fatboy is Harley's # 1 all time sales record holder EXCEPT Police and Military issue motorcycles.
The early Fatboy era is when HD seized the big bike market.
Aaaaaaaanold helped. After that movie, there were 2 yr waiting lists for them
(Remember those days?)

RE: fatboy history
The original FB had seven yellow stripes painted......so did the atomic bombs FatMan and LittleBoy.
The original FB was painted "gunmetal Gray".....so was the Boeing B-29 that nuked Japan in WWII.
The FB has solid metal wheels......so did the Boeing B-29 that dropped the bombs.
The FB's tank emblem closely resembles the Army Air Corps "star and wings" painted on the Boeing B-29.
The FB's name was taken from "FatMan and LittleBoy".
I think they should have an "Enola Gay" and "Bock's Car" edition of the FatBoy?
Did I miss anything? or is there more?

Interestingly enough, this hoax has been regurgitated for years and years. As I was at the Albuquerque, NM balloon festival last year, I stopped in at the Nuclear Museum. Both replicated bombs are on display there. I stared at both bombs for what seemed like forever, trying to see my Fatboy in them. I didn't get it.
