Default Check Engine light?

Ok, I have a check engine light question. I have a 2005 FLSTF-I that I just installed Vance & Hines Straight Shots and a Fuelpak. Everything runs fine but if I open up the throttle all the way, the check engine light comes on and stays on until I turn the motor off. When I restart, the check engine light comes on for about 4 seconds, then goes off. As long as I’m easy on the throttle, the light does not come on, if I open the throttle fully, the light comes back on. Any help / explanation of this would be a big help.

Thanks.

Im having the same problem with my 07 deluxe, did you reinstall the O2 sensors, im thinking that the engine is trying to monitor the afr and its sending a red flag cause there is nothing at the other end. If i find anything out i'll let you know. Please do the same man

Default RE: Check Engine light?

I didn't notice any sensors on the stock pipes. I also forgot to mention that I installed a high flow air filter but I put everything back together per the instructions.

Any instructions on how to check the code??

Default RE: Check Engine light?

There are detailed instructions on this site somewhere

But a quick shot is

switch the RUNswitch on

While holding the odometer button in

Cycle your Key switch on to off

wait to see the speedo needle sweep

Should see DIAG

Then press the odometer button back
should see PSST

Hit the odometer again for a code

Again check the site for a more detailed description

Its easier to do it then to type about doin it

Here ya go for the codes...
Check it out!

The IM (instrument module) is capable of displaying DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes).
Speedometer Self Diagnostics: The speedometer is capable of displaying and clearing speedometer, tachometer, TSM/TSSM and ICM/ECM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC).

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.

2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.

3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting sould illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word “diag” should then appear.

4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.

5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted])
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer

6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC’s the code will be displayed or the word “none” will appear if there are no DTC’s. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.

7 - Record the codes.

8 - If DTC’s are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC’s again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.

9 – Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.

10 – Turn Ignition switch to OFF.

Default RE: Check Engine light?

Did 05's have O2 sensors? I though only the 07's and up have them.

If you just installed a new high flow intake and didn't get the ECM updated with at least a stage 1 download map I suggest you take it off, FAST. The bike is going to run very lean with its original map and higher flowing intake and exhaust. Its going to start frying things inside and its quite probably the reason your getting that check engine light.
To be sure your going to have to read out the codes, but given the info you gave us here I have to believe the new intake is the cause of your problems.The ECM is probably freaking out athigh throttle settings because the new intake is allowinghighermanifold pressure levels than the stock map can handle properly.

My 05 Fatty has no O2 sensor. I think they started in 06.

I thought the Vance & Hines fuel pak adjusts for the correct air/fuel settings? I'll run the diagnostic as described above and see what code comes up.
