Try holding the clutch in for just a bit longer before going into 1st gear. May prove a point.....

I agree.....I can pull the clutch and hold it for a while then engage the gear shifter with no clunk. When I first start it up, there is no way around the clunk.

There is an anti jutter spring in the back of the clutch pack that may not be kicking the clutches apart like it should. The clutches squeeze most of the oil out when sitting engaged and stick at first when cold, then the pack acts like it is dry. You can turn the steel disc over next to it and gain a lot of the spring back to the jutter spring to allow the pack to seperate quicker. Some folks take it out and do away with the 'half' friction disc at its location in the interest of gaining clutch area.... but it does a job.

It really clunks when its brand new. But it will get better the more miles you get on it.
