Default 2000 Softail Duece - question

I have a buddy that can pick up a 2000 softail Duece and wanted a little background, I told him I would check here for him. He wants to know if it is a TC88 or TC88Bor something else?. Are parts easy to come by and are there any design or wear flaws he should be aware of?. He says the bike is in great shape with a lot of custom parts already, but wanted to know if there were things to look for on a used one that will be telltale signs of trouble? He will be moving up from a sportster. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a Deuce and have had absolutely no problems with mine. Keep in mind that your friend will have to look for parts that fit the FXSTD because not all of the softail parts fit the Deuce.

Yes, the early 88TC and 88TCB motors had problems with cam bearings and also cam tensioner shoes. How many miles on the bike? You should tell your friend to ask the seller if the cam bearings and/or cam shoes were ever changed out. If he says they were, ask to see a receiptfor the work. If the bike has over 25,000 miles and hasn't had them both changed out yet your friend should have them checked if he buys the bike.

There are plenty of parts for the Deuce, but many parts that fit all other softails will not fit the Deuce. Parts are pretty much Deuce only in most cases.

I find deuce parts are plentiful and reasonableon ebay. Most mechanical parts are the same. It's seats, luggage racks, saddlebags, handlebars, gas tank, stuff like that that's deuce only. Lots of aftermarket stuff is out there too.
