Thoughts on apehangers
I'm considering putting apes on my 2006 softail springer fxsts, and am wanting some feedback on a couple bars. I am considering the carlini flyin apes 14 inch 1 1/4 non stepped with the carlini risers or the RSD vintage apes. Was wandering what each bar looks like on the springer and if anyone has trouble with the carlinis slipping in the risers with the set screw. If anyone has pics with these bars mounted on a springer that would be nice.

Carlini has a ton of bar pictures on his site. Might have better luck looking there. I love mine and they have not moved any in the first year I have had them.

Be aware that you need either springer bars for a springer (the risers are further apart and the knurling needs to be in the right place) or a springer adapter plate with new risers along with the bars. I avhe the 1.5" bars and the High Roller risers which come with a set screw to hold the bars in place. I can stand on my floorboards while riding over a huge bump and they are solid as a rock. On bumps that used to be an issue with stepped down knurled bars this set up is rock solid.

carlini only makes the gangster and evil ape for a springer in 16". if you want a 14" flyin ape you will have to buy a springer adapter plate.

Will I still need the springer adapter plate if I use the non stepped bars and carlini risers with the set screw.

I t depends on if the bars are wide enough at the bottom. I know my bars are not too wide. It looks like that should would work but i will measure today when I have a chance to let you know. The Carlini site doe3s not show the measurement for that part of the bar for the Flyin apes.

no you shouldn't but....you will need adapter studs to put risers on that are not made for Springer front ends. The mount differently than standard risers. The good news is, I believe the studs can be had for like $20 or so....

fyi , the 2006/2007 fxdwgi, wideglides came stock with 1.25 risers, (non stepped bars).
Might be able to save a buck and see what the dealer is getting for risers...
also they are split without a solid top clamp, might look good on the springer.
jmo...

I took cheesecakes advice and used a Riser stud bolt from Vtwin manufacturing that allows springers to run traditional risers. They screw into your springer forks and your risers then screw onto them. Check with them for fittment part #vt-37-0864
