FATBOY HISTORY POLL, WHAT DO YOU THINK?LAST DAY.
#71
My first Harley was a 1990 FatBoy, purchased fist week of September, 1989. Had my choice of the first four that my dealer received. Loved the bike, unfortunately, sold it 10 years later. Only Harley I ever sold for more than I paid new.
Willie signed my sales brochure. Everyone claimed the 90 FatBoy had the bomb in its design.
Great bike and history

Probably done at the design level and corporate knew nothing about it...or maybe they did...as far as Harley denying it...bet you couldn't find anyone at corporate that would own up to the confederate models they made either... And I don't understand why people get so upset about old threads that are revived that are still relevant.

Yes
I believe this is all true, but not for the remembering of the atom bomb. This was at a time when Japan was copying the HD bikes. This was one they would not copy. Nice work WG. I like it. I own it. I am sorry HD has buried the idea. What ever happened to the zingers on the newer models. Keep the original design and deny the gossip. Because you changed things you admit the idea. It is not an anniversary of the atom bomb being dropped on Japan. It was its own bomb dropped on the Japanese motorcycle companies. That's what I think.

I think it is absolutely true. I am an original owner of a 1990 Fat Boy. I read this explanation in a motorcycle magazine at the time of its introduction. Somewhere in storage back in CA I probably still have the original magazine.
The yellow bands were the same color as nuclear fall out shelter signs.
The star and wings on the tank emblem.
The Gray color like a B-29.
If memory serves me correctly the article at the time said it was a way of celebrating Harley's survival in its war against the Jap manufacturers.
