OEM switch housings & controls
Hi There,
Just a quick one. Anyone out there know what coating Harley use on there switch housings and lever clamps. Thinking of having mine powdercoated as they have started to peel and flake due to the weather here in the UK.
Has anyone had theirs powdercoated? How did they come out?
Regards,
Rob.

RE: OEM switch housings & controls
To refurbish mine on my 1981 FXS Lowrider, I used a low-gloss enamel engine paint. I then heated them it up in the oven. They came out looking good and the paint adhered to them pretty well...and I am very picky.
Another option is to just pick up another set off of Ebay. Guys sell them all the time after they replace theirs with chrome switch housings.

Any paint will work but the problem with aluminum is that it needs a special primer or thepaint will flake off eventually. These primers are POR self etching, zinc chromate, vinyl wash, or epoxy chromate. Prior to this either glass beading or alumaprep is needed to clean the aluminum. Stop into any bodyshop and they will have the correct proceedure.

Thanks guys, still can't work what there coated with origanaly though.
Got a spare set of ebay and gonna run them to the powdercoaters, to see what he can do with them. The stock finish whatever it may be doesnt last 6 months over here in the UK.
Guess I shouldn't ride all year!
Cheers,
Rob
