Default fat Boy 2008 stage 1

Does a stage 1 on a 08 fat boy make much of a differance and what do you get for your money.
keep looking at it and think that i may get it done when i,ve put a few more miles on the clock

It comes down to this,

If you want to just add slip on to your bike for a bit more sound, you don't have to do stage 1

If you go for a full system, you should let her breathe more, once you have done these two things you will need to change the fuel air mix, meaning a fuel management system.

People will say it's add 5 extra ponies to the bike, and you can get a dyno chart to prove but unless your a pro racer then I don't think you can honestly feel the difference.

As I say " it's sounds " faster and itcan give you that feeling

I just put the V&H BR 2-1, a SERT and SEAC on my '08 FatBoy . Engine heat went down quite a bit and the power went up quite a lot. Had my local shop do the work. I didnt get a before dyno number but the after reads 76.35 hp and 87.98 torque. It seemed to pick up power throughout the rpm range and gas mileage stayedabout the same. Overall I am quite pleased with how it runs.

I have no real clue what this stage one thing is. But when I put on the Rush slip-ons the damn gears seemed to change on me, (The shifting, that is); she finally sounded like a Harley; and she seems to go a lot faster.

Although maybe that was just the increase in noise.

I just ordered the Vance & Hines big radius, Arlen Ness Stage 2 big sucker, and a power commander tuned by fuel moto for my 2008 fatboy. It should all be here by friday, and i plan on doing the install saturday. I'll post back up and let you know my seat of the pants difference since i dont plan on having it dyno'ed anytime soon. I kinda wish i could hold off till i have a few more miles, but it was killing me. (i have 400 on the clock).

Can't help you much. I had the stage 1 done prior to pickin up my '08. So I don't know what the difference would be. All I know is that it sounds like a HD should with the BSS. I was also able to get rid of the football cover. I had the SE AC on for about 900 kms, before the POS started falling apart and being sucked in.Brought it back to the dealership and they replaced it with a K&N. I think I read on here somewhere that a stage 1 gives you a boost of 10% in HP. Also, the bikes run cooler. You might beable to get some help from someone who had it done after riding their '08 for a while. Ride safe and ride often.

I had to fix mine because it was too hot to ride. Changed the o2 sensors to 330 ohm eliminators. add the rush slip-ons an the Arlen Ness breather and the gas mileage stayed the same. the plugs burn fine, the heat is gone but I do find my self spinning the rear tire with the same throttle I used before I changed this. No remapping. I did have a dyno run done before the pipes but after the o2 eliminators and I gained 4hp and 8lb torque. There is no need for the stage 2 breather unless you change cam or heads.[/align]

I had my stage 1 mods done by a local Indy shop when I had 800+ miles on the clock. Switched to all synthetic oils then too.

The performance was very noticeable and very immediate. The same twist had much more gitty-up.

My main motivation was to get the engine temps down and to make it sound like a Harley should.

I am very happy now, and coming up on 5000 miles (in less than four months of ownership). My bike has never been back to the dealership for service. I have all the manuals now and will be doing (at least) all my own fluid changes. I have done most of my bolt-on accessories, and find this forum to be all the help I need.

I pull my plugs from time to time, and they are clean with only a slight sign of carbon so I know my FuelPak is adding fuel like it should.

I think stage 1 is very worthwhile!

Iwas looking at a post card from HD saying stage 1 cc up to 1670cc.

But the shop tells me that a stage 1 is new pipes air filter and a chip.
is this the way to go.

If you are getting it done at your HD shop, it will include a SE high flow AC. Word of advice, spend the little extra for a K&N AC.My SE ACstarted coming apart after about 600 miles. Then you can decide on if you want slipons or a new set of pipes. I chose V&H BSS. The HD shop will remap your fuel management system, but you don't get a chip put in, just a computer download.Or, a lot of guys buy a new fuel management system. It is a little more expensive than just the remap but cheaper down the road if you decide to do further mods to your engine. The stage1 don't increase your cc's, but increases the hp and torque by about 10% (?). You can increase the cc's but doing other and more expensive mods to your motor. Hope this helps, if you need more points cleared up, just ask away.
