Yeah, I found the easiest way to remove my battery from a '07 fatty was to first disconnect the cables from it; then, pick the bike up; turn it upside down; and shake. .......Battery just plops out.

Believe me, the above method is easier than trying to remove the stupid thing with your fingers.

Regretfully, I can't remember where I read this and can't attribute:

Once you get it out, you should run a cable tie around the length of the battery. The tie would provide a handle for future removals.

Yup, funny you should say that.

I used a heavy test fishing line. Idea was my bud's though, .....as he was there during the 20 mins of cussing etc.

I believe that its probably something I posted on another thread about putting in the pig tail for a battery tender.

Here; https://www.hdforums.com/m_2586896/tm.htm

In any case its not my "original" idea I had seen it done on a bike several years ago and always like to remember any good "tricks" I find and pass them along.

But my question is why bother pulling the battery out at all? Just get a tender and leave it hooked up. You can take theseat off if your afraid the fumes might bother it over time, but I don't really think its necessary to pull the battery if you have a good tender hooked up to it.

I must have had the battery out of the bike now approx. 8 to 10 times since that first ordeal with it.

Heated grips, had the thing out about 3 times with that freakin' install.

Just installed a pc computer thingy behind the mudguard, hell, the battery went in and out like a yo-yo with that nightmare install.

Installing my beach bars with all the wiring crap, .....battery came out at least 3 times with that.

Dropped a stupid ring thing, or washer, in there too, battery came out that time aswell, only to find it hadn't actually gone down there.

Oh, and then I tried to make a custom "sheet metal" seat, (don't ask) ..... battery came out on that one. Finally woke up and ordered a Le Pere bare bones seat.

Believe me, that sucker has come out a few times.

I was asking davisrf why he was pulling the battery for winter storage.
If its just for storage I leave mine in and just hook it up to the tender.
Mods are another story, I understand, and agree with taking it out, ifneeded, for that kind of stuff.

I have much better fortune at battery removal when I wear my fingerless gloves.

Thanks guys. Sounds like it's gonna be as much fun as the bat I had in my old Sportster.....Harley doesn't do you any favors on some of their engineering. Will keep my daughter out of ear shot.
