You shouldn't need the service manual. But there is info in it onexactly how to takethe connectors apart and which wire goes where.

IMHO the manual is worth every penny if for no other reason then it DOES tell, and showyou where everything is, how to get it apart, and more importantly how to get itback together the right way.

If you don't have one already. I suggest you can't go wrong getting one, and the parts manual that goes along with it.

Yes, I also think that the service manual should be the first thing you should buy if your the do-it-yourselfer. Anyway I got a set of these last Christmas, and to install the new fuel guage, a wire in a plug under the dash needs to be exchanged. An extrasmall flat-tip screwdriver works very well for extracting the pins from the plug.

I'd recommend the manual if your not completely comfortable with tackling this yourself. You don't want to wait till you've made a mistake then need it.....by then the dealer will be closed.

It is pretty easy though, I did mine without the manual.

Good luck!

Default RE: flush gas caps

I just installeda set of the HD flush gas cap & fuel gauge - I hadve no manual.

The gas capis an easy install. The only tricky part is to get the outer ring lined up to sit flush on the gas tank. I used their suggested masking tape method & it worked out great.

The fuel gauge is only a bit trickier because of the last step to get the wires inserted into the black connector properly. The wiresonly go in to the plug one way. A bit of fiddleing with it at the bench, prior to installation, and you will see how they install.

When job is completed, theyreally look great. Highly recommended mod.

Happy new year.

Well, if you have these, it will come with a plastic key to twist off the caps. I personally made one out of some scrap aluminum I had, and polished it up!

To remove the gas cap you push down on it slightly and rotatecounter clockwise (less than 1/4 turn). The cap pops up and you turn counter clockwise just as you would with a normal cap.

good luck

Don
