The verdict - quiet baffles in V&H Big Shots
Hello Everyone!!!
I did some research here on the quiet baffles and got some indications of performance, sound and the like. So I thought I would report out on my experience with these after a few months of riding.
The pipes came with the Standard baffles which were ok but kinda overly loud for general riding around town or even at idle for that matter. I picked up a set of the quiet baffles and so far I am really much more pleased with the sound and performance.
The low end torque seems much more usable than previously. Not sure why, perhaps back pressure but the engine seems much tighter than before. Power is very usable even up to red-line. Decile and downshifting (slow down) feels lighter. My guess is 2Db reduction is about right or about a third quieter. The tiny echo type "bap bap" sound has been replaced with a more refined rumble that is just one throttle twist away from much more sound. There is virtually no back firing except if the engine is still not up to temp and that is even infrequent. I had to enter new codes into myV&H Fuel Pack because of the differences with the baffles. I think this richened up the mixture but I'm uncertain
I know thisis allbased solely on myride feel but I wondered who else hasopinions on the switch. I am much, much happier and thought I would share this. [sm=biker.gif]
I wonder howeverifthere some technical explanation for this. Is the general consensus that more back pressure better for the engine and seemingly more powerful i.e. increased torquebut lowerhp? I wonder also if the fuel pack change isa richerFuel Air Mix.
Take care and Happy New Year to ALL!!!
Mike

Nice report Mike....I had the exact same experience with mine. Put in the quiet baffles with the same results
You are right....having the correct back pressure at low speeds increases engine torque....low back pressure helps at top end. I would also recommend quiet baffles.

I unfortunately have a set of Big Shot Longs on my 06 Heritage. I love the look of the pipes but for me they are just to loud. Big shot longs have no access hole in the heat sheild to remove the baffle. In order to do so you have to remove the pipes, and beleive me that is a pain in the A##. I called V.H. and asked why no access holes. Their answer was they thought the holes would not look right. They went on to say you can loosen all the clamps on the sheilds and slide them forward,I tried that and it dosent work. Consider this if you are about to buy a set of Big Shot Longs.

I have the BSL's and it took no time at all to take the pipes off and change the baffles.
In fact, I spent more time trying to move the heat sheilds before giving up.
4 bolts at the heads, 2 bolts at the frame, and you are done.
Seriously, like 20-30 minutes off/baffles/on.
They made a huge difference in sound perception, torque, and most importantly... my ability to live with the pipes. I loved the look, but hated the sound.
Be sure to use locktite on the end caps, they aren't cheap. I didn't use enough on one and lost it.
$75 and 8 or 9 weeks to get one. Actually its was $65 for 1 or $75 for 2, so I bought a 2-pack for next time [&:]

This is all good to hear as I switched out the standard baffles with quiet before puttin the pipes on the bike. Haven't had a chance to ride and compare to stock but the sound is nice. I did look at both baffles when I did the swap and thougth the quiet baffles looked really restrictive and thought I'd be losing some performance. It would seem that the opposite is true.

I had the V&H BSL on my Heritage and had the QB in them. These baffles took the rasp out of the note for sure and gave the pipes a deeper note. When you guys say you have to remove the pipes to change the baffles you do mean the heat shields.Yes it was a pain in the butt that the heat shields had to be removed to get access to those 2 screws.

Moggsy,
Heat shields have to come off but its so much easier to take the pipes off to do this.
They just pop right off. It takes a bit more to get them back on but still maybe 5 min off, 10 min to change baffles, 10 back on and 5 to line up and tighten heat shields.
