The drain plug for the transmission, on my 2005, is between the shocks, toward the forward end. It takes a 5/8" socket, same as the oil drain plug. The transmisssion takes between 20-24 ozs. I used 75W90 Mobil 1 gear oil. It is a good idea to change the O rings on the drain plugs. Check the transmission fluid when the bike is sitting upright, not on the side stand.

The primary holds 26 ozs. The drain plug usually takes a #40 Torx, mine took a #30 Torx. You can use regular Mobil 1 in all 3 holes. I used Mobile 1, V-twin 20W50, in the engine and primary.
Make sure the engine is up to operating temperature before draining the oil. I didmy changeson a cold engine and didn't get as much of the old engine oilto drain as I should have.
It takes a #27 Torx to remove the chain inspection and the derby covers.

Cool allen key for install grain plug helped me

i just changed transmission oil on 08 heritage classic i used 5/8 socket on drain plug for removal drain plug, had used allen wrench to start it back into drain hole is fine threaded so be gentle as you cant see exactly and or feel and reach by hand to install drain plug, i used Redline V-Twin transmission oil w. shockproof 1 quart, seems to really help it out. able to find neutral lots easier now before almost impossible with engine running or off.

'01 Heritage fluid capacity

Motor Oil - 3 qts
Primary - 32 onces. One qt.
Trans - 26 onces.

If you're going Mobile 1, make sure it's Mobile One VTwin 20-50
It's one of the better oils, ranks up their with amsoil for thermal breakdown.
I do NOT like Redline in the tranny. Spectro is my choice.

I really don’t see anything wrong with resurrecting dead threads, especiallly if the forum never really satisfactorily gave an answer or solution. I always post anything I am researching or refreshing my old *** memory with to get other’s opinions. I often end up answering my own questions before anyone posts anything of value, but that puts it out there for other to learn from… just my two cents worth on that.
