Default 2007 Fatboy cable connectors

Hi All,

I'm trying to change hadlebars on my fatboy. Just wondering if there is an easy way to remove connectors from the cables that run inside the bars.

It's easier to understand if you have the manual, but if you look inside the connectors the "plate" that the pins come through has to be pulled forward to thefront of the connector housing to release the secondary lock, then the primary locks are released throuth the small holes beside each pin with either a pin removal tool or a needle, etc.

Like mojo said its easier to understand with a manual but not all that hard to figure out. Use some sort of hooked tool to catch the side of one of the D shaped holes in the center of the connector and pull up. It will only come up about a quarter inch. Dont try to remove it. Once this is accomplished insert a small stiff piece of wire into the hole next to the pin. I used a throttle return spring with the hook cut off one end. Once the tool bottoms out (may require some pressure) the pin should pull right out of the back of the connector.

Do yourself a favor, get one of these ....

Electrical wire removal tool

I used needle nosed pliers to pull out the white plate, (only pull it out a few mm's, not all the way out), then a paper clip.

I had to remove I think 8, ......... 7 came out within seconds and one took me 20 mins. The next set of 6 all came out easy but one, Phuker took me 20 mins, (break of 10 mins), 30 mins, (break of 3 hours) and then the 3rd time came out in 2 seconds.

As I said, buy that stupid tool above. I wish I had.

Thanks everyone. I spent 2 hours yesterday eventually failing to remove even a single pin. Will give it another go this evening

Arvis, what worked the tool that is pictured? I'm in the process of doing the same thing, it's a project from hell. Did you remove your tank or just slide it up? Did you have to remove the instrument console? I had a hard time removing the throtlle cable and idle cable from switch housing. I appreciate any advice.

Hi Pat,

I removed the console, then removed the tank completely. Takes about 5 minutes and then you are sure you will not scratch anything. Don't forget to disconnect the fuel line and fuel gauge cable when removing the tank. (I made this mistake with fuel line a while ago on another bike - ended up having to replace the broken line)

Then, remove the housings from the bar, disconnectthrotle and idele cables from the grip and then simply pull them out from the housing (might require some force)

I did not use any special tool for the connectors. Made a hook from a very small screwdriver and simply pulled that white plate out by a few mm. Then used paperclip to disconnect the pins.
