Default removing license plate bracket on '07 Deluxe

Was wondering if anyone out here has removed the vertical bracket on their deluxe and if so..how?? I bought a laydown plate bracket from drag specialties, which will fit, however, I need to get the stock bracket out of the way...and from the service manual it says you have to remove the rear fender to get the tail light assembly off...therefore will allow access to the bracket. I HOPE I don't have to go thru all that just to replace the license plate mount.... anyone have an easier way?

thanks.

You have to reach up underneath the fender to undo the three nuts... My Heritage Springer is the same set-up...I didn't have to remove the whole fender...

Sorry brother but that's what I did. I have big hands so I couldn't get it all the way up to remove the bolts. Pulling the fender isn't hard and didn't take that long to do.

Well, I thought about that...tried reaching from the back of the fender....can't get my hand up there far enough...from the sides I have the deluxe bags so they are in the way of reaching from the sides....maybe by taking all the weight off the rear, that may give enough room?? I just hate having to take many things off for what should be a simple install....oh well...thanks.

I put the Softbrake relocation kit on my deluxe. Patience is a virtue. You can do it without removing the fender.

Find someone with small hands to help. Way too much work removing the fender when you can do the whole project in 15 minutes with some small hands.

Are we talking about just putting a laydown plate on in the stock location?
I don't have huge hands, but they aren't small either.
I certainly did not take my fender off or even use a jack. It was so quick, I really don't even remember doing the job.

On the 07 there is a plastic cover on the inside of the fender. When you remove the screws from under the taillight the nuts will drop into that plastic cover. I am not sure how that cover fits on...snaps or set screws. Of course if you purchased a laydown design that mounts to the original spots on the taillight you really don't need the back support brace and the look is cleaner without it. Then next time you pull the rear tire...open and retireve the nuts and fit the brace if you want.

you will need to remove the 3 allen heads holding the tailight on ,there is one nut holding a plastic cover for the tailight harness on the inside of the fenderand a metal clip holding it in place. remove the nut pull down on the cover and off it comes. you will need a phillips screwdriver on the backside of the fenderto remove the two nuts holding the bracket on. no need to remove the fender, i just did mine the other day.
