Default Progressive Shocks-softail

Hello. Im new to the forum. Just found it yesterday. So far I like what I see. I have a 01 softail that I have progressive shocks for the rear swingarm. They are not the fully adjustable style that are available. They are so called, standard length. The question I have is can I screw the rear ends in a little more? The back is sitting down with not much travel. There is the end and a jam nut as it goes into the back of the shock. If I raise the bike up and remove the mounting bolt thru the eye of the end, and loosen the jam nut, can I just turn the end in more and then retighten the jam nut? There is at least a half inch of thread there that I could use. Didn't knoe if that rear end with the eye, just bolts to the end plate of the shock. Thats the way it appears from the outside, but I thought I better ask before I start doing anything. Thanks
