Average Battery Life ?

Default Average Battery Life ?
I think its time for a new battery, starting to get slugish on start up. I have had this bike since Jan 2005 ( about 3 yr)

What ddo you guys normally see for battery life out of the stock HD Battery and any suggestions on a replacement HD or ?

No problem yet with a 2004, and they do last longer. You might try a Battery Tender, made by Deltran. It keeps the battery up without over charging. As you are aware, in the winter batteries struggle.

I always use the battery tender in cold weather, and have traded bikes with 4 & 5 year old batteries still in good shape...I know a guy works for a local dealer still using the original battery in his '01...he believes in the tenders, too...

Mine in my 99 softail last 6 years (this was the one that has the bike when I bought it new at the dealer). I never used a tender. I replaced it 2 years ago with another like the first one. Let's see if this one lasts 6 years too... ;-D

I was at our local Wall-Mart and noticed they carry a battey for a harley $62.00... I think a replacement battery form Harley is $89.95.....I know in some cases you get what you pay for, and in other cases you just pay for the name.........

In the case of the batteries, I think that you get what you pay for, so I won't try to save some money in this. Batteries are one of the most important parts of your bike. If you don't want to buy a battery from your dealer, buy it from any other place, but I would consider that you buy it of a prestigious battery brand.

My first one lasted 5 years, I also use a Tender on it in the downtime.I replaced it with a Yuasa.

Mine lasted about 3 years, even with plugging it into my battery tender too.
My guess is that what really killed it was after my engine rebuild I have tons more compression, and it probably wasn't strong enough to keep turning it over....so I just went with a Big Boar battery, and she fires right up every time! Got away w/o having to use compression releases for now....
