New Ride Question - 08 SE2 Springer
Just got my Springer.. Took it out Friday night and went well. Saturday, took it out again and loved it. Had some work done to it and it moves. Cams, rods, pistons, pipes and tuner. Had an 883 8 years ago. First time on a big bike with crazy power. My complaint was when I took it out on the interstate. 60-65mph, was easy for the bike. For me, helmet was loss and felt like it was pulling me off.. It is a DOT carbon fiber 1/2 helmet. The wind was not blowing, but at 60mph, I was getting blown. Any suggestions or thoughts? Thinking windshield for high speed. Don't want to loss the look. Thinking helmet change for high speed..

RE: New Ride Question - 08 SE2 Springer
Fortunately for me, Ohio is a choice state so I don't have to wear one unless I want...I do have several helmets of different types and the only one that doesn't try to tear my head and neck off is the full face racing helmet, and I usually only wear it at night on the highway...
The rest of 'em just give me headaches and a stiff neck...

sounds like a very special helmet....... sorry couldn't help it.
on a more serious note I think it just comes down to excessive high speed + open face helmet = strangulation

I have a half helmet and even though I snug it up, I still get a similar experience that you are getting. One thing that helped me out was I just tip my head a little forwards/down and it seems to help with the feeling like your helmet is coming off. It might move a little, but not like if you were riding with your head straight up in the air.
p.s. I understand the reasoning behind windshields, but I don't care to use one on my Springer. It's just a personal thing with me, but I think that it looks better without it so I am willing to put up with the wind a little more. Once I got used to it, it wasn't any big deal to me any more.
