12.5 Springer Ape Wild one handlebars
Need some advise,
I'm about to change my handlebars to the 12.5" Wild 1 Ape for springers with stock risers on my 01 Heritage Springer, and I was wondering what length of clutch, brake and idle SS braided cables shouldI get. The handle bars will be pre-wired for me. Please advise.

Cut and Pasted from member AgentOrange off the HSOA board....Good Luck..Good choice of bike and bars.
12.5" Chubby Apes (springer) - Wild1 #WO-516 $210.00
These bars are absolutely beautiful and top quality. The wire holes are not stamped like the cheap ones. They are milled out which allowed the wires to be pushed thru the bars very easily without having to fish for them. Took me 3 minutes to run the wires on both sides.
Throttle Cable - Barnett Motion Pro Armor Coat #48-772 (+9") $26.95
Idle Cable - Barnett Motion Pro Armor Coat #48-773 (+9") $26.95
Clutch Cable - Barnett Motion Pro Armor Coat #48-663 (+5") $29.95
I have always been impressed with Barnett products and these cables look and fit absolutely perfect.
Front Brake Cable - Russell Coated Stainless #49-421 (50" #3 line with straight chrome ends) $27.95
Master Cylinder Banjo Fitting - Russell #21-220 (12mm 35* male, chrome) $7.95
Caliper Banjo Fitting - Russell #21-218 (10mm 90* male, chrome) $7.95
Brake cable was the perfect length and both fittings fit perfect.
Other items needed:
(1) Bottle of DOT-5 Brake Fluid
(1) Clutch actuator housing gasket located on the right side of the transmission. $3.00
(2) 12mm Banjo Bolt Washers - $.50ea.
(2) 10mm Banjo Bolt Washers - $.50ea.
18 & 16 gauge wire to extend the harness plugs about 9" or so.
Total cost for everything - $355.00 (plus shipping)

RE: 12.5 Springer Ape Wild one handlebars
Sounds about right. I bought my bars W0516 through a local indy and got them for $190. [ul][*]8+ control wire extensions (I used Novello kit instead of cutting and soldering for backward compatibility).[ul][*]Lots of tricks for fishing the wires. I used string and an air compressor. Tape off the holes except for one bar end and the center hole. Feed some strong into the hole and then blow it through the rest of the way. Tape wires to the string and pull through. [/ul][*]No need to extend signal wiring. I relocated the turn signals to the forks using kit from J&P. You can get them anywhere but to get an idea: J&P part no 3200425[*]I used Barnett cables and lines too. I wasn't too picky - I just got a good price.[ul][*]46" brake line with same size fittings as mentioned above.[*]Only went +6 on the throttle and clutch cables. Everything fit and no binding so you can be sure anything between +6 and +9 will work.[/ul][*]The stock bushings leave a little wiggle so I swapped them for a poly kit. Springers are odd so make sure you get the right ones. I used Goodentight kit from Drag (DS-7806-1056).[*]Double check for your year what brake fluid to use. Harely switched BT's a few years back. Mine is an 06 and uses DOT4. [/ul]

I have an '07 Heritage Classic. I have been eyeing the Wild 1 12.5" apes and was curious if you guys knowif the Springer bars from Wild 1 would work on my bike. They seemed to be wider than the standard Apes, which is what I am looking for.

The Springer bars (W0516) won't fit but they have a set that will: W0502. The dimensions are the same. The difference is in the knurl separation. The standard bars have a 3.5" on center knurl separation while the Springer bars are 4.75".
If you go to www.wild1inc.com you can see pics of them installed on a Heritage. Unless you meant Heritage Springer. In which case forget what I said....the W0516's will fit.

Yes. I guess you are right. They aren't exactly the same. Not sure how much of a difference those 2" make.
For what its worth I would actually prefer mine be slightly narrower. So if I could have had 36.5 vice 38.5 I would have done it. It's more a looks thing for me. But of course this is all personal preference. I'm 5'8" and have no trouble maneuvering the bike around even doing box drills (ala MSF course drills).
