Default Lay down license plate 08 Deluxe

Has anyone else put on a laydown license plate on their deluxe???? I just got one for my 08 deluxe and put it on. Let me tell ya, it's a little more difficult that it seems.

Just some pointers if you want to put one on.... Drag specialties sells a good billet one.
To do it right, and easier, though it may take a little more time, remove the rear fender completely.
Remove the tail light lense with a 5/32 allen wrench
remove the plastic cover on the inside of the fender
remove the two bolts that are holding the license plate bracket. Put the new bracket on, while the fender is still off.......This is the tricky part if you do not remove the fender cause you do not have access to the back side of the bolts, and if not careful the bolts will slide into the fender/plastic cover on the inside......

Then, put back together.

Man, some of these things are harder than they have to be lol.....

Welcome to the wonderful world of wrenching.
Paying someone $80 an hour to do it for you sometimes isnt all that bad!

I looked in the drag fat book page 999. This one mounts to the mounting tab on the taillight.I did not look at how the stock one is mounted but it looks like you just remove two bolts on the taillight and replace it .I could be wrong ..............

Removing the Rear Fender to install a License Plate bracket sounds like a lot of work. I installed mine without doing that and didn't really have any issues. To hold the inside bolt in place I just put a piece of tape over it to hold it in place, worked fine.

i don't know, on the 08, there was no way to secure the back of the bolt without removing th plastic coveron the inside of the fender that covers up the bolts. I don't know if this is different from previous years. There are two bolts on the Drag specialty bracket, but again with the 2008 deluxe, you cant hold the bolts tight to put the nuts back on without removing that plastic cover, and in order to get to the plastic cover, you can either act blindly trying to remove the screws that hold it in, or remove the fender............ I know sounds hard

I just wedged my arm inside the fender to hold the back nut with an adjustable wrench. Took all of like 10min to install. Mine is a kuryakyn brand.
