Default Springer Classic Question

Hello,

First of all let me say been following this forum for a few months, first time poster. I like to browse this forum and look for ideas and check out some of the beautiful bikes on here. I have a '07 Springer Classic. Traded in my old Dyna on her, couldnt have been happier with the swap.

So Im droppings tons of money on my new baby, I decided she needed black Gimp apes. So I ordered a set of gimp hangars (only 12.5, Im only 5'7") for her and even though some of the posts here claim they take along time to ship. They were here in three days.

I've been debating having the dealer put the bars on. I feel A) Im a wuss if I do that and B) that I dont want to drop 500 on paying someone for something I should be able to do. So as the debate rages on in my head. I figured I would post here and ask anyone if they had happened to put 12 1/2's on their springer and how many inches over the stock cabling should you order the cables? It looks like if I order stock +3 inches it should work, however I thought I might ask in case anyone had done it before.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Thats a good reference. I just did 12.5's and all cables were +6. Throttle/idle could have been a hair longer. used the novello wire kit to extend the wire harness. job was simple and didnt take long at all.

I have an FX Springer and I put Wild1 Chubby 12.5's on. I used +6 everything and 8" Novello extensions. I went with Barnett cables and lines. I didn't have a brand preference per se, my local indy gave me the best price on those. Besides, sometimes you find HD can't provide you everything in the length you want. Someone will know this too: Who makes the HD cables? Are they Barnett too?

It is certainly a DIY job if you want to tackle it. Deciding whether the dealer cost is worth it depends on how motiviated you are and what your personal labor rate is. If you have the time and are motivated, do it yourself and have some fun. If you just want it done so you can ride and you have the extra cash, let them do it. Sometimes its nice to have someone take care of it for you.

Either way, post pics when you are done!
