Default softail parts

I just traded up to a new (07) softail fxst.
Like many others, the wife is funky about spending a lot on add ons right now.
I have been looking on e-bay, and there are a lot of parts on there cheaper.
Has any body had good or bad luck buying used parts on Ebay.

Ive had good luck buying parts on ebay........although Ive only bought new parts there. Be sure to check the rating of the party selling. Also, have you asked around at your dealer? I bought a couple of used "take off" parts from mine,....bought a set of screaming eagle muffles for 25 bucks, had less tham 100 miles on 'em.

Bought parts for 4 bike over the last couple years. I haven't had problems with not getting stuff as much as some of the stuff not being the quality I was lead to believe it was. It can get confusing. For example I've seen chrome switch housings for sale all over the place (after-market). You would think the more expensive they were the better the quality, not really. Some companies just sell the lower quality for more. Others I've seen somewhat cheap turned out to be pretty good. I thought there was only one or two after-market sets madebut have personnally seen four.

I look at a bunch of sources. Depends on the item, company, return policy and of course price and delivery. Ask on here and plenty of good people to steer you in the right direction. Also look for a local indy in your area who can order you stuff at a discountsuch as Custome Chrome, Drag Specialties, ect. Hope this helps.

I've bought a few things, and some wee great buys and some were so so. Bought some bars that the seller said the chrome was in "excellent" condition, but when I got 'em they were covered in fine scratches and fairly heavy oxidation. I was able to use a high speed buffer with chrome polish and a lot of time, and I got them looking great, but still.........I did buy the bars cheap so it worked out.

I've bought a couple of things from forum members and been very pleased. Just keep your eyes peeled for the deals.....

I've been buying parts off Ebay since 2002 (back when I was cruising on a Sporty). I've bought a ton of stuff for my Sporty, as well as my Softail. Pay attention to feedback ratings. Also, I've found that quite a few dealerships are now selling through Ebay stores. I bought my chrome engine kit for $600 (retail is 760ish), and my chrome front end kit for $300 (retail is 460ish). These both came from HD Dealerships- one from St. Paul HD, one from a dealerhip in Tampa. Also, check the classifieds here on the forum......good deals to be had- you just have to be patient. Congrats on the new scooter, and welcome to the forum.......Now, GET YOUR A$$ in the softail standard thread!
