Default new fatboy, pipes blueing up to 16" away from head? What to do?

Pipes are turning blue from the head to about 16 inches down the pipe? This is a new stock EFI bike. This can't be normal? Its got to be getting to hot. Has 3500 miles on it and has been ridden mostly at 55-60mph open road. Never let set and idle more than 2 minutes. If it is overheating will harley fix it? New bike WTF? Never had this prob on others but they were all carb'd Harleys. Need advice.

Welcome to the world of the EPA. Yep normal and it may not last the 2 years they are warranty for. I would suggest a fuel management system and a dyno tune unless you buy a Thundermax with autotune.

The pipes on my 07 Fatboy are deep blue where the the oil tank is, I can see it in the reflection of the tank. I think its from the EPA lean tuned engine. I just bought a set of take offs to replace them after I add a fuel management system and decide on pipes.

I am having a Vance & Hines Big Radius pipe installed on my 2008 Fat Boy along with a High Flow Air Intake. I was going to take it to the Harley Dealer and have them reprogram the mapping. Will this take care of the lean problem? Should I have it Dyno Tuned or get the PCIII? It is brand new and only has 200 miles on it. The pipe will be installed in the next few days. What are the pros and cons?

Sorry to highjack your thread.

By Fuel Managemnet System do you mean the PCIII? Is that a good unit.

Is the Thundermax with Autotune the best? I want the best set up that is going to be hassle free for me. I am not much of a mechanic and I dont want any problems. Money is not an issue.I will not do anyo ther mods other than the pipes and intake. Nothing more..... ever.

Thundermax with Autotune if money is no object. It will save you from a dyno tune and if the person was not good at doing it and also will tune you at 100% and keep tuning as you drive and as the engine wears and if you change pipes later.

Actually, that was going thru my mind as I was typing my reply. I wonder what it would look like with the shields off! It would match my paint!!
