EFI bikes and fuel run-out question
This may be a silly question WRT softails but it's rooted in some pretty serious horror-stories...
I've talked to some folks with EFI vehicles that have ran their tanks dry and have had to have their vehicles serviced to purge air out & reset their fuel systems. Anyone know ifrunning out of gasis a serious problem on the '08 softails with EFI? Ever run out of gas (with one of the new softails with EFI) and care to share the consequences?
TIA,

RE: EFI bikes and fuel run-out question
Funny you ask. I ran out of gas last Friday with my 07' Deluxe I worked on my bike all winter, removed gas tank and all. Took it out for its maiden voyage, all of probably 10 miles to my buddies custom bike shop. I put enough gas in, I thought to make it there, then fill up at the gas station. My thoughtwas notto re-use the gas inmy gas. WRONG!!! Was about a miles from my destination, and, putt, putt, putt.. Acutally was in the high 40's temp, on the highway, 1 Harley guy stoppedand we bullshited a while, he left, a statey stopped offering help and waited until my wife came with the gas.
Anyways, put more gas in, and away I went with no problems.
I guess you could pop off the fuel line, remove the fuel pump fuse, and give it couple of cranks to purge air out of lines i guess??

RE: EFI bikes and fuel run-out question
I don't think it is good for the fuel system to run it dry, but you shouldn't need to have it purged. If you are removing the gas tank or replacing the fuel filter, the first step is to remove the fuel pump fuse and run the bike dry to relieve the pressure in the fuel system. Instructions for putting everything back together don't mention purging.
