tabone, here is what each number represents in say a 180/60R17:
180 - this refers to the tread with, which in the case would be 180 millimeters.
60 - this refers to the sidewall height, which would be 60% of 180 millimeters (or the treadwidth)
R - Radial tire
17 - wheel diameter
As for the MH90-21, although I'm not positive, I'm going to assume the 90 is the sidewall height, here it would be 90% of the treadwidth, and of course 21 refers to the wheel diameter. I don't know what the MH stands for though. Hope this helps a little.

What grumpez said, plus i think the 54H is the rating for how "hard" the tread is. It would help determine how "sticky" the tire would be. Keep in mind the stickier it is, the softer it is, so it will not last as long.
I think also the MH stands for motorcycle tire and H is the speed rating.
