I have a 2007 fxstc and only got 1.75 qts. of oil out of the tank. i was expecting 3 qts. There is a plug on the engine bottom that looks like it could drain some of the engine oil/
I drained the oil after the bike had set for a couple of weeks. Did I screw it up??/thanks
You should have run the engine first to get the oil up into the tank. When some bikes sit for awhile some of the oil that should be in the tank will seep into the engine.
Make sure that you run the bike and then check the oil to be sure that you have not over filled it.
If you're looking toward the front of bike, that's the crank "pipe" plug. That would take some real muscle to break loose with breaker bar. BUT, You should be draining from the oil drain plug. Just follow the oil line from the oil tank and should lead to the oil drain plug more aft.
Yeah you screwed up! I know because it sounds like you drained from were I tried to on my 1st oil change. The 07owner's manual does not even show what that plug towards the front of the bike is for. The oil drain plug is on the right side of the bike on the bottom of the frame directly under the pivot bolt.
When you chabge oil, like it has been said, always run the engine first. Not only does it move the oil into the tank but it also cirulates any impurities in the oil and they will be drained out also.
Just my .02.
