Default Did something stupid….Armor-all

Hey guys...as you can tell newbie here. I cleaned by bike Saturday after riding and used armor-all just on the sidewalls of the tire (applied with a towel) not on tread. Put the bike away and haven’t rode it since (lot of rain).

I was looking on the forums and noticed a lot of people saying this is a very stupid thing to do…after visiting the armor-all website they state not to use it on bike tires. I already have a large scar on my arm from road rash…don’t want another one and the last thing I want to do is dump this new bike..

Should I wash the tires off the tires with dish soap, water and a brush remove the armor all? Will be fine leaving it alone? Any thought? Live and learn.

I scrub my whitewall tires with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. That does me. It would also remove the armorall in seconds, if you want to remove it.

I wouldn't worry, if you don't have it on the actual tire treads. You don't ride on the sides of the tires, like sport bikes, so just don't put it on again. The product shouldn't damage the rubber. After all people use this stuff every day on car tires. Personally, Armorall doesn't come anywhere near my bike.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't worry. I've used AA or similar products on my bike tires for 20 yrs. I always apply to dry tires w/ a towel or sponge.

I've seen it where it starts to "run", like paint, into the tread area. If it has had time to dry, you should be OK. Personally, I would try to get it off. Better safe than sorry.

use Back to Black, keep it only on the sidewall, don't glop it on, the after a few wipe it with a dry cloth. It won't sling off, or drip down if it gets rained on. Lasts much longer too.

Sorry to read about your experience but I'm glad I read it. I didn't know anything about the issues of using Armor-all. Haven't used it on my bike and will definitely stay away from it now. Thanks for the heads up.

Didn't do anything...Just got back from a ride...everything went okay, just have a frozen thumb. (NH still a bit cold!)

For this to really be a problem I'm thinking you have to drench the tire then turn on road paint or something...
