Did we mention there is a tube inside the tire that holds in the air. The tire leaks less air out through the spoke holes with a rubber tube holding it in.
Mike
just kidding, been there/done that. Thanks for the chuckle.
Worse part is when you change the tire you need a new tube and a new rim strip as well! ($18 more each rim)

I have to say something on this topic. My buddy and I a couple years ago were out riding. We both had Roadstars at the time....but that isn't important now....anyway, we both had spoke wheels and we were about 55 miles away from home. He ended up getting a flat tire. for the hell of it, he went into a gas station and bought a tire repair kit. We inflated it fully, found the leak, reamed it out, and plugged it. Needless to say, it held air (no leaks at all) for 3-4 weeks after until he finally brought it in to get it properly fixed. Now I'm not recommending anybody carrying a tire repair kit for their spoked wheel and tires, because I think that he just got lucky and the puncture was fixed. but all I'm saying is that anything is possible, although not recommended. Totally blew us out of the water seeing that is held air.

If you have a puncture, the dealer will not repair your tire but replace it.It'sall about profit at thedealer.
Why spendall that money for a new tire? Iwould replace the tube and patch the tire.
If your puncture is on the sidewall then replace the tube and tire.

RE: Puncture repairs for spoke wheels
I was on the Alaska Highway, 120 miles east of Whitehorse, when I picked up a nail in my rear spoked tire. We put slime in the tube and filled it with air. I rode the bike to the Harley dealer in Whitehorse. It went flat on me 100 yards from the dealer. I had him patch the tire and put a new tube in it. If the nail isn't too big, slime will work in an emergency.
