Anyone with forward controls on a Custom-please help
Hi folks,
getting my first bike after my Rider's Edge at the end of May, and I'm pretty positive it's going to be an '08 Anniverary Custom.
I am 6'5" with a 34" inseam. it's extremely uncomfortable to reach the brake with the stock setup on the showroom bikes I have checked out. I have heard about numerous forward control setups and different vendors.
I was hoping someone could chime in that has forward controls on a Custom, specifically. Pictures would be great as well.
From what I can learn, it seems you can either extend your stock controls or purchase new hardware that is extended.
Thanks very much!
Jeff.

RE: Anyone with forward controls on a Custom-please help
I am just finishing up installing a set of 3 inch extended Accutronix Controls. I just need to adjust everything today and am ready to go.
I am over 6'4" and I can tell a big difference in comfort just sitting on my Springer, very anxious to give them a long test drive.

You are correct.
It's mostly a case of economics. You can buy an extensionkit (such Arlen Ness) for around $160, or you can buy the new
controls that generally will cost you several (ie many) hundred dollars.
I went with the Ness kit and installed myself. Only PITA part was replacing the rear brake line and bleeding it, but the
kit had all the hardware that is needed. For a taller rider, it's probably the best "function" mod you can make.
I don't have any pictures readily available, but it really doesn't look any different than stock unless, you look closely.

Here are the part numbers I used to extend my controls..
Arlen Ness 3" FWD CTRL EXT. KIT, 07 FXST 07-611
Küryakyn 7936 2" extenders
toped off with a set of Küryakyn7445 switch blades.
Hope this helps..

RE: Anyone with forward controls on a Custom-please help
I just bought an '08 105th. Anniv. myself. I'm 6'3" and have long legs. I've suffered on my other harleys. So this time I ordered H.D. extended forward controls. I believe they move things forward about 3 inches. They are real nice and comfortable. You can go with aftermarket parts that are a little cheaper than harley. I like to keep everything on my ride All Harley.

'08 FXSTC here- sorry, but no pics. I used the Ness forward control kit, using and maintaining the stock pegs, foot controls, etc. Pushed it out 3" as noted and it is a huge difference from stock. I thought stock wasn't too bad, but during my 1000 mile bleeding/leaching of the pocket book, I had the Ness kit installed and it's so, so, much better now. I'm 6'1" with a 34" inseam too boot. I only readjusted the shifter position to fit my foot/boot placement and the brake was already correctly positioned.

Hi folks,
thanks very much for the pix. I am finalizing my deal today for an '08 FXSTC 105th. Fantastic group of people I am dealing with at Signature HD in Perrysburg, OH
they are going to put the Ness extension plates on for me at delivery, and keep my stock controls. There are so many choices out there for aftermarket controls, i don't want to make a snap decision on new controls until I get out and about and see what everybody else is using.
Just going for comfort initially.
Can't wait......
thanks again for you input...
