Default Sundowner on Heritage

I'm planning a road trip from NJ to Nova Scotia this summer on my Heritage and think it may be wise to swap out my stock seat for something better on the back and rear. My first choice was the mustang but the $900+ price tag has me lookingat the Sundowner at less than $300.

Any Sundowner owners disappointed with the seat?. Is italot better than the stock seat and pillion.

You could have the stock seat modified. Mean City Cycles has a good price and reputation. The link: http://www.meancitycycles.com/index.php

Not a lot better IMO. I put a Sundowner on my 07 Heritage a few weeks ago. I actually think stock seat is more comfortable. Sundowner sits me down an inch and forward just a bit and has a little more lower back support. Sundowner has, more or less, the shape I want. I'll probably have someone use it as a starting point to rework it and make it comfortable.

Thanks for the input. Guess I knew there would be a variety of different opinions which reminds me that I probably need to sit on one before throwing down the bucks. Having sat on all the HD bikes I believe the Heritage is the most comfortable stock seat for me. But with lower back problems I'm looking for better support there for longer runs. I did a 250 round trip last week on the Heritage and I was a hurting unit by the end of the day.

I have a Sundowner on my ride and I love it, but the wifes 08 Heritage is nice also for a stock seat, you should check on a back rest for the long trips

I found the following with these seats on my 07 Heritage Classic:

[ol][*]Sundowner: excellent handling with the lower seating position. Moves you a little forward and you sit on your crotch. (B)[*]Two Up HD: 562etc 00A: Moves you higher and forward; smooth; slides you forward. Back rest is great. (B+)[*]Signature series HD: same as 1 (knockoff) but with a back rest. (C)[*]Stock most comfortable but lacks back rest for long rides.[/ol]
Just bought the Mustang for $727...moves you back and higher but the most comfortable yet especially the back rest. It came with a defect but they are replacing it. (Grooves under seat from glue curing improperly)

I have the sundowner on my '04 FatBoy most of the time. I'm not a real big guy at 5'9 175lbs. and feel that the factory seat is probably better fit to larger bottoms. So to be specific, I like the sundowner seat for long and short putts. Price is right quality is very good.
