96B vs. 96 - difference??
Hi, I have an '07 STC, love it. Just curious what the new eng, 96Bfor '08, differs from the '07 96?
Or, a referral to a site or article that goes over this. Can't find anything on Harley web site.
Also, if you know of a good/reliable after market parts place on web, would like to know. Thanks, Steve

RE: 96B vs. 96 - difference??
Either the 88B or 96B are motors as previously mentioned that have a counter balancing mechanism to reduce the vibration from the motor.
This is required on Softails as the motors are still rigidly mounted to the bike frame. This transmits all the motor / drive vibrations to the frame and thus the rider.
All other newer Harleys have rubber mounted motors. The rubber mounting absorbs the vibrations from the motor / drive.
Watch a Softail idling at a stoplight as compared to a bagger. The Softail will be smoother (much) idling while the baggermotor looks like a monkey f****** a football. The mirrors bounce around and the front tire is about coming off the ground (slight exaggeration). The Softail will be much smoother at idle but as the revs go up, the Softail will transmit a small vibration thru the entire bike. The rubber mounted motor will smoothout and have little or no vibration at road speeds.
I have both, 2004 Heritage and a 2007 Ultra. I will be honest and say that I can't go back to riding the Heritage and love the Ultra. My wife hates my bagger and will only ride her heritage. To each his / her own.
