Default 2003 solid rear wheel on a 1997? Can it be done?

I can get a chrome solid rear wheel for a great price, off a 2003. What would it all take for it to work on my 1997 Custom softail if at all possible. Ant tips or help is greatly appreciated.

The wheels have different axle sizes. I think 2000 and up are 1" and older softails have 3/4". Check with the stealership to confirm this.
