Default fuel gauge removal

Ive gotFatboy with a small dent in the left side of the tank. Yeah I dropped it, stupid me. I've got a paintless dent removal guy that says he can get the dent out no problem but he wants to go through the gas gauge hole in the tank. I've pulled out the cap and see the wire going out the small holein the bottom of the tank then under the tank. How can I get slack in the wire to pull the gauge out far enough so the body man can do his magic? I've neverremoved the tank. Anyone knowa post on here to help?

It's pretty easy to remove the gauge. It unplugs under the tank and using a paper clip you can release the clips and wires from the plug then it pulls right out, just make sure you make note of where each wire goes.

Removing the gauge will not give you access to the interior of the tank. All that you will find is a cavity slightly larger than the gauge that reduces down to a smaller hole that the wire harness passes through

Well there goes my idea. Any other ways to avoid a new tank or serious body work?

Well your choices are very limited. Look it at inthe positive, now you got an excuse to get a custom paint job .
