Gas escaping from cap on hot day.

Gas escaping from cap on hot day.
A neighbor I was riding with over the weekend filled up his EFI
'05 Heritage gas tank full. We crossed the street to eat lunch..in mean time has gas tank was baking in 100 degree sun.
When he went to start his bike gas came spewing out of his gas cap... The heat and EFI pressure apparently did it..
Anyone else have this problem??

RE: Gas escaping from cap on hot day.
The fuel should not have come out of cap.
 \\;
There is a vent connected to a small hose that will put excess fuel on the ground not on your tank.
 \\;
I filled my tank up then went and ate at a restourant on a trip i was taking and the vent spilled fuel on the ground thru the hose.
 \\;
It was harmless, lost 1/4 cup of fuel.
 \\;
The cap should not leak.

I agree that expansion is definitely the problem. \\; There should be a overflow/relief value with a hose that goes to the ground under the middle of the bike. \\; Just don't fill it so full and the problem will fix itself. \\; I have 2 softtails with EFI and they both do it. \\; Its just part of the beast. \\; It definitely should NOT be coming out of the gas cap. \\; You had best have this looked at before the family jewels get soaked with gasolinethat hurts just to think about!
 \\;
Filling it too full even on a cool day is not a good idea. \\; Just the heat of \\;a hot \\;engine will expand the gas and cause it to overflow.
