RE: 2008 running on one cylinder
Is this post for real? Have you not even made a quick trip through your manual? Did the dealer not explain anything when you bought your bike?

It's the EITM system ("parade mode") and it's operating as designed - as long as it's the rear cylinder you're talking about!

Cant speak to the 2008s but my 2005 has a heat management system and will shut down the rear cyl when it is getting to hot.

In the 3 yr I have owned it only happened once in a bad traffic jam in over 100 deg heat, the oil temp dipstick was up at 280 - 300 deg and the engine starting missing and running on one cyl, as soon as I could get moving and bring up the rpm all was OK.

That is called the parade mode and is Harley's answer to over heating the bike at a stop. They claim it is only for riders comfort. I have only heard this being done to a touring bike and not the Softail.

By the way mine does not get hot. I can even touch the heat shield on the muffler after a long ride and it is fine. This is thanks to the great dyno tune i had done.
