5th Gear Noise After 1,000 Mile Service
Just had my 1,000 mile service, after some 100 degree weather, I hear a strange "nuts and bolts" noise in fifth gear. Before the 1,000 mile service, there was no
noise what so ever in any gear! The dealer put SYN 3 in all 3 holes. I'm starting to think the oil in the tranny has something to do with it. Any suggestions????

RE: 5th Gear Noise After 1,000 Mile Service
I ran Syn 3 in all three holes on my 05 Ultra after first maintenance check.
It shifted fine no problems, sold bike with 35K miles on it, guy I sold it to is still using syn 3. \\; I am now running Syn 3 in the engine of my 08 Heritage but am staying with Harley's recommended oils for Tranny and Primary. \\; Before I bought my 08 Heritage I heard many complaints from other riders and on the Forum about 5th gear \\;transmission noise and \\;shifting problems when HD went to the 6 Speed. \\; For now until I get more feedback I'll stay with the Dino. \\; My .02 cents for now. \\; Good luck. \\;

If it is a Harley 6 speed it will make noise in 5th. \\; I ask about it and was told by the service tech that the 5th gear is a flat cut gear and not helical (angle) cut. \\; All the rest are cut at an angle and curved. \\; You will probably just get used to hearing 5th make some noise. \\; Without a tach I at least know when I'm in 5th.
