Teach me how to avoid floorboards scraping
I went for a ride with my buddies yesterday evening, twisty road in Mt. Baker Washington, I can't recall how many times I scraped the floorboards, it doesn't hurt but it feels uncomfortable, totally lost my confidence on cornering, I almost have to slow down to stop on some hair pin turns, I never have to worry about this when I ride my other Sportster 1200, it corners so well. I am just curious how you guys handle this, should I just live with it? Alex

RE: Teach me how to avoid floorboards scraping
I was talking to a buddy that races bikes about scraping. He told me to shift my weight and lean a bit more into the curve. The bike will pull itself to a more upright position thru the turn. I tried it out and found that I didn't scrape on corners that I would always scrape on before trying this technique.

RE: Teach me how to avoid floorboards scraping
That's what my buddy told me to do on the way back, it still takes time to adjust, I will learn.

RE: Teach me how to avoid floorboards scraping
I agree, if you're going to ride one of these this way, you're going to scrape the boards.
If you want to limit it, you can lean your body more or shift your weight. \\; The more of your weight that is shifted, the less the bike has to lean.
Getting used to the scraping is good, but I noticed, I started hitting the brackets or other hard parts which makes me nervous. \\; The floorboards will bend, the brackets and frame will eventually lift a tire.

If you ride hard you are going to scrape but you can minimize it by mastering the skill of counter steer. Counter steer input on the bars is how you should adjust your lean in a turn \\;not weight shift.
Weight shift can cause a high side event if overdone the bike needs to lean.
