Default question about gas

have an 08 night train that is pinging. There's a gas station around the corner that sells 100 octane gas. Is this to high to run strait or is it better to mix 1 gallon with the rest of 91. the scooter is stock (for now)

i would think the cheapest gas there is would run in your bike. you have a 2008 thats ment to run on regular. i run prem. but i have a 1990 with milled, although the original owner said he ran the cheapest gas he could get and never had a problem. id be a little leary about running to high a octane gas.

The '07 and '08's are programed to run very lean. I was experiencing the same thing until installed the IED's from Nightrider.com.

&nbsp\\;I would suggest premium ONLY. Watch that the 100 octane in not LEADDED. It will play havoc with the 02 sensors and injectors.

Pinging is a sure indication of needing some fuel management. A higher octane fuel will help, but they can be hard to find. Yes the 07 and 08 run hotter, but that does not mean you need to leave it that way. I use a Power Commander III and have had great success with it providing a better fuel management and getting away from the silly 14.7:1 air fuel mixture.

get you fuel management and you will get rid of the heat, better hp, no ping and your engine will last longer

first of all read your owners manual, it tells you to run premium fuel. secondly, it seems that most of you do not know what occtane means. octane is the fuels ability to resist detonation(pining). the only problem high octane fuel will give you is hard cold starts, like winter and snow cold. you might want to watch running fuel that is leaded, such as some racing fuels. with that being said, high octane fuel will not blow up the engine like many people seem to think.

blusssman, what is silly about 14.7:1? what did you do to make your bike run cooler?
if you want to make it run cooler, you would have to richen it up.

When does it ping? YOur bike should not ping on 91 octane gas. Are you trying to accelerate in 5th or 6th gear? Unless you are over 70mph you should not accelerate in 5th or 6th. SOme say 6th is only for cruising and you should always downshift.

Does it ping all of the time or only when you are below the powerband?

The bike does ping with 91 octane. only when its warmed up and only when im accelerating from 2nd gear on up. Mixed a half gallon of 100 octane with the rest 91 and its working so far.
